Brussels, 17 june 2015.- On the 1st of July the Regional Minister for Economy and Industry of the Galician Governmet will launch
Oportunius in Brussels, a complementary initiative to the European Research
Council (ERC) Starting Grant program. Oportunius intends to retain and attract
scientific talent to Galicia in line with the priorities set out in the
Galician RIS3. This proposal is addressed to outstanding European researchers
so that they can develop their career in Galicia and contribute to the
excellence of their research capacities.
Given the need to promote quality research in order to ensure the
competitiveness of Europe on a global scale, it is a fundamental goal for H2020
Excellence Science Pillar to pursue the development of European talent, support
the best ideas and provide researchers with access to a research
infrastructure. In this sense, it is of vital importance for European regions
to define and strengthen their priorities in line with the H2020 goal of
reinforcing and extending the excellence of the Union’s science base. European
regions must define their priorities in this field through their Research and
Innovations Strategias for Smart Specialisation (RIS3).
Oportunius will be launched on the seminar “Synergies between Excellent
Science and RIS3”. Speakers will include the Regional Minister for Economy and
Industry of the Galician Government, Francisco Conde López, the Head of
Department of Scientific Management of the ECR, José Labastida and the Head of
Cabinet of Corina Cretu, Regional Policy Commissioner, Mikel Landabaso.
