Santiago, 9th of May 2011. The Fundación Galicia Europa (FGE) holds for the third consecutive year its photo contest, which on 2011 deals with “Galicians: active citizenship” on the occasion of the European Year of Volunteering. Works will be accepted from today, Europe Day, in commemoration of the Schuman Declaration that meant the beginning of the European Union 61 years ago.
The amateur photographers over 18, born or resident in Galicia, can submit until 17th June one only picture, whether in colour or black and white. The photo must approach one of these matters:
A jury, made up of image and culture professionals, will select a set of finalist pictures among which three might be chosen as winners and awarded with prizes of 500€, 300€ and 200€. Once jury’s decision is made known, the FGE will organize an exhibition with the finalist photos.
Europe Week
The Europe Week, during which the Fundación Galicia Europa has undertaken several activities to mark the 9th of May 1950 in our region, ends with the announcement of this photo contest. This week of commemoration started last Monday in Lalín (Pontevedra), where 50 elementary pupils from the schools Sagrado Corazón and Manuel Rivero assembled a giant puzzle of European Union.
As well, Saturday 7th, Open Doors Day at the EU institutions, Galicia had one stand in the Committee of Regions in order to promote our community in Brussels. Likewise, Galician politicians published an official statement and raised the EU flag in the headquarters of the Xunta de Galicia.
