Santiago, 15 April 2014.- Fundación Galicia Europa and Xunta de Galicia, with the support of the Representation of the European Commission in Spain, are holding a conference on the “Vocational Training’s European dimension: training, mobility and entrepreneurship”. The seminar is taking place at the Integrated Centre for Vocational Training (CIFP) of Santiago de Compostela on the 14th of May 2014, and it is especially aimed at Vocational Training teachers and counsellors from Galicia. They will learn about the EU policies on mobility, employment and entrepreneurship related to young graduates in Vocational Training (VET): the European framework for Vocational Training, the existing initiatives to support the integration of young jobseekers into the labour market, entrepreneurship and the mobility opportunities for students and young graduates in VET.

Training and Employment within the Europe 2020 Strategy

The first part of the seminar will be devoted to the importance of training and employment within the Europe 2020 Strategy, which is the agenda for growth adopted in 2010 to promote a smart, sustainable and inclusive economic growth in the EU. Several of its specific objectives set for 2020 will focus on education and labour market, like the rise in the employment rate, the greater amount of graduates and the reduction in school dropouts. Thus, this thematic unit will tackle subjects like the ways of contributing to the mentioned objectives from the EU Institutions and Xunta de Galicia, and so a spokesperson from the European Commission DG Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion will talk about the need for adapting education to the labour market.

Fostering entrepreneurship and enterprise creation

The second thematic axe will be entrepreneurship, which is essential for economic growth and job creation, and it is being encouraged through European and national initiatives oriented to show the feasibility of creating a new business and the way of becoming a sustainable and attractive option. These initiatives will be explained by representatives of the Galician Institute for Economic Promotion (IGAPE) and from the EU commission DG for Enterprise and Industry.

Opportunities and tools for intra-EU mobility

The closing part of the seminar will be dedicated to mobility within the EU for students and young graduates in VET within the framework of Erasmus+, the new mobility programme replacing the former Leonardo da Vinci programme. There will be presented as well how to write a Europass CV or how to apply for jobs in the EU through the EURES network.

This conference forms part of a more ambitious project in which these initiatives are targeted to VET students and not only teachers, and so the present seminar will be complemented in Autumn this year by a series of four talks followed by debates organised in four Galician VET Centres, one in each Galician province.
