Brussels,
30 June 2015.- This morning, Mr. Francisco Conde López,
Regional Minister for Economy and Industry
of the Xunta de Galicia in a meeting with Philippe Muyters Minister of Work,
Economy, Innovation and Sports from Vlaanderen signed this morning the Milan
Declaration to join the Vanguard Initiative.
This is a sign of the engagement of Galicia with the objectives of Vanguard Initiative in order to achieve a closer interregional cooperation and a better economic future through innovation. Mr. Conde Lopez stated that “this step allows Galicia to boost its industry following the path of the 25 leading regions that belong to this network”.
Galicia has recently adopted the roadmap “Galicia-Industry 4.0” aiming at raising the share of the industry sector in the GDP from the current 13,5% to the 20%. This working plan comprises 60 measures dealing with capacity building, innovation and access to new markets. In this framework, a new program will also support Smart Manufacturing.
There is a common view between Galicia and the regions in the Vanguard initiative to compete better in international markets through technology and innovation. This is the perfect opportunity for Galicia to develop pilot projects together with these cutting-edge regions.
That same afternoon, after
having signed the Milan Declaration, Conde López hold a first working meeting
with the Presidency of the Vanguard Initiative (the Basque Country) and with
two representatives of the European Commission (DG REGIO and DG GROW) that
strongly support the objectives of this regional initiative.
