Fundación Galicia Europa is a private, non-profit-making institution created to promote all the actions that favour a closer relationship between Galicia and Europe. It was established in 1988, and it is made up of several public and private Galician entities. It is open to collaboration with all the institutions representing the economic and social Galician life and pursuing the same aims.


Since its creation, the directorship of Fundación Galicia Europa has been functionally linked to the Xunta de Galicia. Nowadays, the department of the regional administration in charge of Fundación Galicia Europa has been the General Directory of Foreign Affairs and EU Relations from the Regional Ministry of Presidency, Civil Service and Justice of the Galician Government. The Galician President is the Director of the Fundación and the General Director of External Affairs is the Managing Director. The reason of this bond is to achieve a better coordination of all the European related actions undertaken by the different Galician sectors.

OBJECTIVES


The objectives of Fundación Galicia Europa are: to contribute to education on European matters of young Galician people and professionals, to provide information of interest for the Galician society on the European Union, to direct Galician interests in Europe and to promote the culture and the economy of Galicia through the development of several activities. The overall aim is to support the external development of Galicia.


Information

Concerning the field of information, advice and management, Fundación Galicia Europa’s mission is to provide Galician people with all the strategic information they request about the European Union in a wide range of areas. This service is run by its offices in Santiago and Brussels.


Its internal distribution of competences allows Fundación Galicia Europa to deal efficiently with all the enquiries related to European subjects of interest for the Galician community. In its everyday activity Fundación Galicia Europa also undertakes the follow-up of the Community policies in order to have the necessary response capacity to defend properly the interests of Galicia in the European institutions.


Due to its physical presence in Brussels, Fundación Galicia Europa is well qualified to support Galicia in all the forums where the regions and the municipalities have a say, such as the Committee of the Regions. High among its duties is assistance to Galician civil servants taking part in the committees of the European Commission, and guidance to different groups or institutions interested in taking part in Community programmes.


Training


As far as the field of training is concerned, Fundación Galicia Europa aims to bring the European reality closer to the Galician society and to promote training on European matters. In order to achieve this goal, it organizes and sponsors courses and seminars where the aspects of the European policies having special relevance for Galicia are exposed and discussed.


Fundación Galicia Europa also finances every year a series of scholarships in European universities for postgraduate studies on the European Union. These scholarships are aimed at graduate students wishing to complete their academic education. The Fundación also awards scholarships for the carrying out traineeships in European institutions or in its own offices, either in Santiago or Brussels.


Fundación Galicia Europa takes an active part in the Civil Servant Formation Plan on international matters organized by the Galician School of Civil Service (EGAP).


Publications


Concerning its publications, Fundación Galicia Europa aims to provide Galician people with the necessary intelligence on Community matters. It does so through its informative publications. Some of them are prepared by Fundación Galicia Europa itself, and in many others the Fundación takes part as a sponsor.


Among these publications are found the Galicia Europa Bulletin, the Monographies Collection, the Community Regulation Collection, or the Main Texts of the EU Collection.
